Stages of Recovery has two locations in Texas. In Waco, we provide what is called a partial hospitalization program for men and women, also known as PHP. Unlike residential rehab, in PHP, clients either return home or to a sober living home for the evening. That said, the structure and treatment plans emulate the same type of care found in residential rehab, but at a significantly more affordable cost. We believe quality addiction treatment should be accessible to all and find the PHP model to produce highly successful outcomes, especially when paired with a transitional living home. PHP is also more likely to be covered by your health insurance plan compared to inpatient residential treatment.
In PHP rehab, clients engage in individual therapy and group therapy for six hours per day for 14-30 days. During this time, clients receive comprehensive evidence-based therapies designed to address the underlying causes of substance abuse, such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectal behavior therapy (DBT), motivational interviewing (MI), and trauma therapies.
It’s estimated that more than 50% of individuals with a substance use disorder also suffer from a co-occurring mental health condition, such as trauma, depression, or anxiety. For that reason, our program also emphasizes the importance of uncovering and treating the psychiatric needs of our clients.
Clients will also learn life skills and engage in peer support, 12-step programming, and holistic therapies. After rehabilitation in PHP, clients move on to the next phase of our continuum of care: intensive outpatient.

Aftercare: Continued Outpatient Addiction Counseling in Waco
Receive long-term support for your recovery journey. Our Outpatient Program (OP) is a step down from IOP and provides continued addiction treatment to clients who are reintegrating into their lives. Outpatient aftercare typically consists of 1-hour addiction counseling sessions on an individualized cadence. During PHP and IOP, clients work with their primary therapist to develop an aftercare plan.
Continued addiction counseling enables clients to continue practicing the tools they learned in rehab while retaining a level of support and accountability. Because the first year of sobriety is often considered the most critical, many clients choose to continue outpatient sessions for their first year of recovery.
Sober Living in Waco, TX
Sober Living, also known as transitional housing, is highly encouraged to all of our clients. Whether in PHP or outpatient rehab, sober living provides the accountability, support, and structure that are conducive to recovery.
Returning home during treatment can sometimes result in unexpected triggers or temptations. Many people find the environment of sober living helps them focus more intently on their recovery.
Stages of Recovery offers two transitional living properties. Our Men’s community boasts six two-bedroom, two bathroom, fully furnished apartments located near I-35 and 16th Street in Waco, while our Women’s residence, also fully furnished, features four shared bedrooms and three bathrooms. These Sober Living Communities provide men and women in Waco access to the support they need for successful addiction recovery. Both properties share a short commute to Baylor University.
